It was this month one year ago that I left my career in outside sales to plan the opening of Helios Medical Equipment.
After 22 years of being on the road, I wanted a solution where I could handle both my passion for helping people and use my experience from my time with Medi USA, where I was extensively trained in compression products, how to work with physicians, wound care centers and so much more. I decided it was time to open up a store-front to give back to the community that I grew up in.
A New Beginning
Our location was a former vape store and needed some major renovations before we would open in early July of 2019. I learned how to use a rolling scaffold to paint my store over the Memorial Day weekend. Our office furniture was delayed in shipment so our working desk was a six-foot plastic table that hosted two computers, two phones, one printer, and a full power strip. My dog had been fighting cancer for six months and I was thankfully able to bring him to work with me every day instead of leaving for overnight sales trips. It was definitely a unique time in my life.
I hired my store manager later in May and we worked tirelessly to meet our July goal of opening. We opened while still navigating the equipment licensing process so we were limited on what products we could sell. It was the end of 2019 before we were running at full speed. The customer response to our store has been fantastic and we continue to increase business every month. We are so grateful for the opportunity to improve your quality of life by helping you find the right product that fits your needs and being able to provide you with the proper education.
As I reflect upon the last twelve months, I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to serving our community as Tampa’s premier medical equipment and supplies store. Thank you for all of your continued support and business!
